YouTube currently uses a system called Content ID to monitor the use of copyrighted music in any video that is published. Musicbed is a rights-managed catalog, which means that all of the music offered is copyrighted and owned by the artists we work with directly. Anytime a video using copyrighted music is uploaded to YouTube, a claim will automatically be placed on the video. What is a Content ID Claim?
Simply put, if a video uploaded on YouTube contains any copyrighted material, it can receive an automated Content ID Claim. Their system scans for copyrighted material and places a claim on any video containing copyrighted works - whether a license is in place or not. Content ID claims are issued on behalf of individuals and organizations that own music, movies, TV shows, and other media in order to protect them from copyright infringement, or the unlawful use of their work. Since we are not a royalty-free site, our artists/labels have an agreement with YouTube that allows them to claim videos as a way to track and monetize the use of their songs.
If you receive a Content ID claim, it is not a bad thing — it only means that the system found copyrighted material in your project.
